Specialties for Materials Science and Engineering implement a training model called ‘Training in a Large Category’, focusing on the establishment of a generous discipline knowledge basis, enhancing foundation, broadening professionals and laying emphasis on practicing. Metallic Materials Engineering, Materials Forming and Controlling Engineering, Functional Materials, Materials Physics and Metallic Materials Engineering for Japanese are included.

The program of ‘Training in a Large Category’ is carried out in the first and second school years, and there is a professional spilt-flow which bases on students’ intension and overall band score in the third school year. Students of Metallic Materials Engineering for Japanese would be trained on the basis of large category, and students are supposed to master Japanese and English, and the length of schooling is five years.

Metallic Materials Engineering

The major is comprehensive undergraduate major reformed by nation and Liaoning Province, which ranked first in the first profession comprehensive evaluation organized by Department of education of Liaoning Province, and was identified as first advanced undergraduate specialty in universities and colleges by Department of education of Liaoning Province.

Senior engineering and technical/management talents with humanities accomplishment and innovative spirit are developed for social and economic construction, and they master basic theory of Materials Science and Engineering and expertise of Metallic Materials Engineering. They usually work for technology development, process and equipment designing, scientific research, production and management, including the fields of designing and preparation of material composition, research and analysis of material structure, material modification, quality management of metallic material engineering and non-destructive testing and material characterization.

Main courses: Fundamentals of Materials Science, Thermodynamics of Materials, Principles of Solid Phase Transformation, Methods of Material Analysis, Metallic Materials Science, Mechanical Properties of Materials, Fundamentals of Materials Physics, Principles of Materials Forming and Process of Materials Forming.

There are two professional directions: the direction of Metallic Materials Engineering and Technology (preparation and quality optimization of materials, surface modification technology, materials corrosion and protection, safety of engineering and quality management) and the direction of non-destructive testing (including non-destructive characterization of material property, analysis and process of ultrasonic signal, detection and evaluation of ultra-thin composite structure, ultrasonic testing and non-destructive evaluation, etc. )

Graduates usually work for enterprises, research institutions and universities in the fields of materials and manufacturing, and they work on science research, technology development, quality detection and evaluation, management and international trade and so on.

The specialty possesses the right to award doctoral and master degree, and there is a post-doctoral research station.


Materials Forming and Controlling Engineering

The specialty is the specialty firstly approved by the national engineering programs among similar specialties in our nation, which is the characteristic discipline and the first ‘Bachelor Model Specialty of Liaoning province’. Technological elites who are equipped with deep basic theories of Materials Science and Engineering, are engaged in scientific research, technology development, technology and equipment design, production and management in the fields of control and optimization of material processing, advanced preparation technology of materials and development of new materials.

Main courses: Fundamentals of Materials Science, Principles of Materials Forming, Principles of Solid Phase Transformation, Methods of Material Analysis, Metallic Materials Science, Engineering Drawing, Transmitting Principles, Materials Forming Technology, Measurement and Controlling of Materials Forming Process, Principles and Application of Numerical Modeling, etc.

Graduate are mostly engaged in scientific research, technology development and application, operation and management, international trade in some scientific research institutes, higher teaching institutions and high-tech enterprises, and other departments .

Functional Materials

The specialty is a national specialty related to national strategic emerging industries. Technical elites possessing strong basic theoretical knowledge of materials science and engineering are trained. They work on teaching, science research, technical development and application, production and management, which include the fields of designing, synthesis and preparation, property testing and characterization of functional materials.

Materials Physics

Talents possessing professional knowledge and fundamental skills are trained, and they receive the training of technical innovation and experimental skills. They work on science research, technological development, process design and management in the fields of component design for traditional and new materials, preparation processing, surface modification, micro-structure and property characterization and so on.

Main courses: Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Theoretical Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Principles of Solid Phase Transformation, Methods of Materials Analysis and Metallic Materials Engineering, etc.

Metallic Materials Engineering for Japanese

With international vision, elites mastering basic theories of Materials Science and Engineering are cultivated. Many exchange students are selected to exchange to famed colleges and universities in Japanese, and there are Monbukagakusho Scholarships and other scholarships for graduates to famed universities to work for doctoral degree.

Only English candidates are recruited and the schooling year is 5 years.

Japanese teaching and bilingual teaching are carried out to specialized courses by teachers who have plenty of research experience in Japanese famous universities and research institutions.
