The University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine, UCI), also known as the University of California, Irvine or Irvine, was founded in 1965. It is a public research university, a member of the Association of American Universities, the Pacific Rim Association of Universities, and the International Forum of Public Universities, and is known as a "public Ivy League".

The University of California, Irvine is located in Irvine, Orange County, about 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and is home to the "safest city in America," the "King of the World's Livable Cities," and the "Silicon Valley of Southern California. "It is also home to many famous technology companies, including Broadcom, Qualcomm, SpaceX, Western Digital, Lockheed Martin, Blizzard Entertainment, Cosmos, Google, and Walt Disney, which support the development of the university and the employment of students.

Despite its short history, UC Irvine has produced eight Nobel Prize winners and seven Pulitzer Prize winners, making it a major research-based institution of higher learning in the United States. The university is ranked No. 35 in the 2021 U.S. News Best Colleges in America and No. 7 in public universities; and No. 18 in the nation in the 2019 Washington Monthly Best Colleges in America rankings. In Money Magazine's 2019 Value for Money rankings of U.S. colleges, UCI was ranked No. 1 in the nation for its unique location and employment advantages.

In addition, the university is ranked 69th in the 2020 SoftTech Academic Ranking of World Universities and 78th in the 2021 U.S. News World University Rankings. According to data published by U.S. News in 2019, UCI was ranked third in the nation in terms of the number of applicants to universities.
