Due to the advantages of being low cost and low power consumption, pyroelectric infrared sensors are widely employed in many applications, such as target location and tracking. In such applications, reference structure used to modulate views of binary sensors can help improve spatial resolutions by segmenting monitoring spaces into many cells identified by states (called signatures). This talk explores the segmentation of monitoring space generated by binary sensor arrays. We study the maximum number of achieved signatures, explore a series of bad sensor system deployments, propose a cell reconstruction algorithm to reconstruct cells generated by the deployment formation, study the maximum number of cells in deployments, conduct experiments to provide deep insights into the influences of sensor deployments, and provide theoretical analysis and computational complexity analysis of the proposed methods.

Yang Xiao is currently a Full Professorwith the Department of Computer Science, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa,AL, USA. He had directed 20 doctoral dissertations and supervised 20 M.S.theses/projects. He has published over 300 Science Citation Index (SCI)-indexedjournal papers (including over 60 IEEE/ACM TRANSACTIONS) and 300 EngineeringIndex (EI)-indexed refereed conference papers and book chapters related tothese research areas. His current research interests include cyber-physicalsystems, the Internet of Things, security, wireless networks, smart grid, andtelemedicine. He is an IEEE Fellow, an IET Fellow, and an AAIAFellow. Prof. Xiao was a Voting Member of the IEEE 802.11 Working Group from2001 to 2004, involving the IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) standardization work. He hasserved as a Guest Editor over 30 times for different international journals,including the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC) in 2022,IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON NETWORK SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING in 2021, IEEE TRANSACTIONSON GREEN COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKING in 2021, IEEE Network in 2007, IEEEWIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS in 2006 and 2021, IEEE Communications StandardsMagazine in 2021, and Mobile Networks and Applications (MONET) (ACM/Springer)in 2008.
